The final stretch of the WSOP 2026 gained another worrying episode off the tables. The professional Jared Griener was robbed just hours after leaving the casino with the amounts received during the series. As a result, the American lost all the bankroll he was carrying in his backpack.

Thus, the player himself found two criminals already waiting inside the house he rented in Las Vegas. As soon as he entered the property, Griener was knocked down and tied up by the robbers. Then, the men took the backpack that contained all the money. The professional did not reveal the amount stolen.
In this way, even quite shaken, Jared Griener managed to escape and seek help. “I was tied up for a long time trying to free myself. When I managed, I ran to a neighbor’s house to call the police. Fortunately, I did not suffer physical injuries. It was the most frightening and traumatic experience of my life. All my money was taken.”, he wrote on social media.
Additionally, Griener believes that the criminals followed his movements still during the World Series of Poker. According to the player, the suspects knew the access code to the residence and arrived at the location about ten minutes before him. “It is likely that someone observed me at the WSOP and knew I was coming home with cash. Las Vegas detectives are already investigating the case.”, he stated.

Similar cases have already been recorded

However, situations like this are not new in the circuit. Criminals often monitor players who leave casinos with large amounts of money. In recent years, several professionals have also suffered similar robberies after participating in poker tournaments.
Among the most well-known cases is that of Chad Power, who had a safe with approximately US$ 1 million in cash and casino chips taken from his home in 2021. In addition, Antonio Esfandiari, Jonathan Duhamel, Greg Raymer, Darren Elias, and Hoyt Corkins also appeared among the victims of similar crimes.
Finally, not even legends of the sport escaped this type of threat. Doyle Brunson revealed that he believed he was targeted by criminals in 2016 and posted a warning on social media. The Dane Theo Jorgensen experienced one of the most violent episodes when he was shot during a robbery at his residence, while the criminals took money and other belongings.
