Ottomar Ladva invoices Main Event of Onyx HR Series and lines US$ 1.1 million

A well-known name in the world of expensive poker, Estonian Ottomar Ladva achieved an important title at the Merit Casino tables in Cyprus. Last Friday (6th), he took down the Main Event of the Onyx High Roller Series, with a buy-in of US$25,000, earning a seven-figure prize.

The competition attracted 207 entries, and Ottomar Ladva pocketed no less than US$1,150,000 by overcoming all opponents. At a final table with names of the caliber of Patrik Antonius and Boris Kolev, he defeated Australian Geoffrey Mooney in heads-up. The runner-up, in turn, walked away with US$717,000.

Although he had a prominent role at the FT, getting involved in actions, Ottomar Ladva started with a modest stack. Among the nine qualifiers, he had the seventh largest stack, in a chip count led by none other than Patrik Antonius.

The Estonian was, in fact, responsible for the Finn’s elimination, in a QQ versus A5 hand where Antonius found no help from the deck. From then on, Ottomar Ladva took off, at one point holding more than half of the chips in play at the 4-handed stage, and had no trouble closing the deal. He started heads-up with four times as many chips as Mooney and sealed the victory with an AQ versus A5 hand.

And although Ladva is a frequent figure in High Rollers, this was the first seven-figure dollar win of his career. Recently, he also made his mark in Brazil when he came to compete in the BSOP Millions in São Paulo. On that occasion, he took down the 100K 1-Day, earning R$1,605,000.

Time for four cards in Cyprus

After a series of Hold’em events, which saw names like Matthias Eibinger taking titles, the Onyx HR Series is now moving on to Omaha events. The first of these, the US$10,000 PLO Opener, has already concluded. Russian Artur Vyborov beat the field of 232 entries to take home US$450,000. Tournaments like the 50K PLO Grand Slam and 25K PLO Main Event are yet to conclude.
