Brazilian Yuri Martins has etched his name into the PokerGO Tour champions’ hall of fame. On Monday (9th), the star player won Event 5 (US$15,200 Big Bet Mix) of the PGT Mixed Games, an exclusive series of mixed-game tournaments in Las Vegas (USA). As a result, he pocketed a handsome sum and earned points for the circuit’s rankings.

This was Yuri Martins’ first PGT title. In Event 5, he overcame a star-studded field of 53 entries and pocketed US$262,350, defeating none other than Britain’s Patrick Leonard in heads-up. “Pads” took home US$166,950, and his compatriot Talal Shakerchi completed the podium.

Shortly after eliminating Shakerchi in a 2-7 Single Draw hand, Yuri Martins began heads-up with almost three times more chips than Leonard. In a duel that balanced out, they faced each other for almost an hour until the Brazilian confirmed his title in PLO Hi/Lo.
Furthermore, this is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting week for Yuri Martins. He is already confirmed for the Super High Roller Bowl Mixed, with a buy-in of US$100,000, which starts on Thursday (12th). Additionally, he leads the final table of Event 6 (US$15,800 Big Bet Mix), which has 7 players left and will conclude this Tuesday (10th).

More Stars Crowned at PGT Mixed
With one champion crowned each day, the PGT Mixed Games kicked off with Chino Rheem and Justin Liberto taking home their trophies. Before Yuri Martins, two others had already won, including the star player Nick Schulman. The Hall of Famer won the US$10,200 8-Game, Event 4, beating 84 entries to take home US$235,200.
A day earlier, in Event 3 (US$10,200 TORSE), it was the turn of fellow American Ryan Hoenig to celebrate. He emerged as the best among 83 competitors, earning US$232,400. This was his second title in the PGT circuit’s history, while Schulman secured his eighth.
