Thus, this edition went down in history as the biggest Invitational of all time. In total, the tournament recorded 137 entries and was completed after three days of competition. Brazil had two representatives: João Simão, who fell within the payout range, and Rafael Mota, eliminated near the money bubble.

Furthermore, the tournament’s dynamics received praise from the champion. In the Triton Invitational, recreational players receive invitations and can each nominate a professional to compete in the competition. On Day 1, the groups play separately, but the survivors start competing together from Day 2. The differentiated format has become one of the main attractions of the Triton Poker series.

Thus, Adrian Mateos commented on the high technical level of the competition. “The first day is really tough, with all the best professionals in the world competing”, said the Spaniard, who also approved the tournament structure. “I like this new dynamic, these new changes. I like to adapt my game, this works very well for me”, he added.

However, Mateos started the final table with only the sixth largest chip stack, accumulating 18 big blinds. At that moment, the Spaniard appeared far from the lead, which belonged to the Russian Anatoly Zlotnikov with 84 big blinds. The Russian, in fact, secured the first elimination of the final by dispatching Isaac Haxton with KK against AJs.

Gradually, Adrian Mateos gained consistency and began to control the actions at the final table. The Spaniard found important folds and built a healthy stack throughout the final. It was Mateos himself who eliminated Anatoly Zlotnikov in an all-in of A8o against K5o, firmly taking the lead of the tournament.

Finally, the heads-up was formed against the Belarusian Alexey Lozuyk and the battle took place at a high level. Right in the first hand of the decisive confrontation, the Spaniard opened a big lead and almost confirmed the title immediately. The definitive victory came when Adrian Mateos hit a flush with A6s and overcame the opponent’s AJo to win the Triton Montenegro trophy.
