Gabriel Tavares crava Main Event-H da New Year Series e forra seis dígitos

The week has barely begun, but Brazilians are already collecting six-figure scores at the virtual tables. One day after Felipe Ketzer reached the mark on GGPoker, it was Gabriel Tavares’s turn to shine on PokerStars. The Samba Team pro took down the Main Event-High of the New Year Series.

The competition, played over two days, had buy-ins of US$5,200 and registered 106 entries. Under the nickname “gtavares10”, Gabriel Tavares was able to beat all the beasts in the field and, after completing an impeccable campaign, cashed in exactly US$122,130.

However, incredibly, it wasn’t the only six-figure prize from Brazil in the session. This is because, in the Main Event-Low, for US$109, the structure was Mystery Bounty, with a US$100,000 prize pool. And it was precisely this prize that went to Brazilian William Fernandes “wdias21”. Even finishing only in 840th place out of 10,041 entries, he pocketed US$100,159.

In this cheaper version of the Main Event, two Brazilians made it to the final table: “RealDanCooper”, seventh place for US$9,098, and “Tanque Kosoves”, eighth for US$31,246.

Similarly, three Brazilians also stood out in the ME-Medium, for US$1,050 played in PKO. Among 659 actions, Igor Kirch “IgorHKR” was the best from the country, finishing seventh and taking home US$11,699. Right after him were Henrique Lessa “554477” in eighth (US$14,465) and Lucas Rocha “Rochinha2011” in ninth (US$12,590).

Beyond the Main Event: more Brazilian scores

Having said all that, there was still room for Brazil to stand out in other competitions on the PokerStars schedule. The scores came not only in the regular tournaments but also in the New Year Series side events. In the 136-Medium (US$215 NLH PKO Series Saver), João Biancolini “Jbiancolini” took down the title, surpassing 891 participants to win US$24,032, with William Barbosa “Williaml666” in fourth (US$9,108).

In the 135-Medium (US$109 NLH 6-Max Deep Stack), Brazil secured three of the top four positions. Among 1,162 entries, Breno Drumond “Breno2728” took the win, securing US$18,363. Jean Guimarães came right after in the standings with US$12,794 for second place, and Eder Campana “edercampana” was fourth for US$6,211.
