After nearly two decades competing in major tournaments, the American secured a spot at the final table of the most important poker championship in the world. He remains in the fight for the US$ 10 million prize awarded to the champion.

Thus, besides skill at the tables, Gagliano had to overcome the physical and mental fatigue imposed by the Main Event. The BetMGM ambassador compared the long marathon of the competition to the movie “Groundhog Day”, as the days seemed to repeat during the tournament.
In this way, right after bagging 46,500,000 chips, an amount that placed him in fifth place, Gagliano explained the analogy. “I have been saying for many days that it feels like ‘Groundhog Day’. The more players fall, it seems the number never decreases. A friend asked me when I would be happy, and I answered that it would be when only nine players remained. Now I feel I finally made it.”, he said in an interview with PokerNews.
However, while seeking a great result at the tables, Michael Gagliano also helped the poker community. During the series, he developed the Summer Poker Calendar app, which freely gathers information about tournaments held in Las Vegas. The technology will return next season.

Impressive comeback to the final table
However, Gagliano started the campaign on Day 1B, when he turned the 60,000 starting chips into 93,000. He advanced through Day 2ABC with 135,000 chips and grew on Day 3, ending the stage with 736,000. However, Day 4 brought difficulties and reduced his stack to only 300,000 chips, equivalent to about 12 big blinds.
Additionally, the American reacted impressively. On Day 5, he accumulated 5,215,000 chips and returned to the fight among the remaining leaders. The surge continued in the following days, always with important decisions that consolidated his presence among the tournament finalists.
Finally, already in the decisive stretch, Michael Gagliano eliminated important opponents and won fundamental confrontations to build his campaign. The highlight was the victory against Shaun Deeb, when his T♠T♥ overcame the rival’s A♣J♠ in a pre-flop all-in. He also eliminated Hossein Ensan, the 2019 world champion, and even surpassed the mark of 100 million chips before closing the day with 46,500,000.
