Lukas van Eeden experienced one of the rarest moments in poker during Day 6 of the Main Event of the EPT Barcelona. The Dutch amateur player hit a Royal Flush when only nine competitors remained. In addition, he was fighting for a prize of € 1,370,050 awarded to the champion.

Thus, the tournament had 1,823 entries and reached the final stretch at Casino Barcelona. At that moment, the nine remaining players already had € 126,950 guaranteed. However, all were still seeking the title and the biggest prize of the competition.
In this way, the hand started when Jose Criado opened to 250,000 chips on the button with 6♦4♦. Van Eeden called in the big blind with K♣J♣. On the flop, 2♠A♣10♣ appeared. Thus, the Dutchman already had a strong draw for a Royal Flush.
Additionally, on the turn the 3♣ completed Van Eeden’s flush. Still, Criado bet 750,000 chips. The Dutchman called and saw the Q♣ appear on the river. Thus, his maximum flush became a Royal Flush, the rarest hand in poker.

Van Eeden decides to hide Royal Flush
However, despite the historic hand, Van Eeden did not show the cards to the table. He preferred to just collect the pot after a bet of 650,000 chips on the river. Moreover, the decision drew attention because players usually show a Royal Flush when they have that opportunity.
However, after the hand, the Dutchman explained that he was still trying to understand the best decision. “This may have been one of the wrong decisions I made today, but I was a bit stunned to get a Royal Flush. I had never gotten one before”, said Van Eeden. Therefore, the surprise ended up influencing his choice on the river.
Finally, Van Eeden continued pursuing the dream of winning the title in the main tournament of the EPT Barcelona. For Brazil, the contest ended when Bárbara Akemi was eliminated in 10th place. Her journey was the best of a player from our country in the history of the European circuit.
