It ended this Sunday (23), the Main Event of Triton Montenegro. With a buy-in of US$ 100,000, the competition gathered 159 entries and distributed a total prize pool of US$ 15,900,000. The title went to the player from Hong Kong, Danny Tang, one of the series ambassadors, who took home a reward of US$ 3,522,000.

However, the story of the final table was marked by the champion’s enormous resilience. When only eight players remained, Tang was down to just seven blinds after attempting a bluff against the Chinese Ye Wang. “But then I got lucky, stayed strong, and kept fighting”, said Danny Tang to the official tournament coverage.
Thus, he reached the heads-up against the Austrian Klemens Roiter, but the chip advantage was entirely with the European. “I told my friends I felt no pressure… When I started leading in the heads-up, I didn’t want to have expectations again, but I felt things were going very well”, Tang stated, recalling the heads-up he lost in Event #3 of the same stage.
With that, the tournament ended when Tang limped holding AJo and Roiter announced all-in with A7o, receiving an instant call. The board maintained the advantage for the player from Hong Kong, while the Austrian took the prize of US$ 2,377,000 for the runner-up position.

The champion’s love for Triton

This was Danny Tang’s sixth title in the world’s premier high roller series. In fact, he had already won a Main Event before, but in the Short Deck format. According to the player’s profile on The Hendon Mob, Tang has over US$ 38.8 million in live tournament earnings, even though he is mainly recognized as a cash game player.
Moreover, the champion is one of Triton’s ambassadors and made a point of expressing his affection for the series. “Triton is in my blood, in my veins. I love this series, my career wouldn’t be what it is today without Mr. Paul and the entire Triton family”, Tang stated.
Finally, it is also worth highlighting the performance of Brazilian Alisson Piekazewicz. He was the only representative from Brazil to reach the payout zone of the tournament, being eliminated in 24th place for a prize of US$ 159,000. Other names from the green and yellow squad, such as João Simão and Kelvin Kerber, fell before the payout zone.
