Some names are immortal in the history of poker. Certainly, the Finnish Patrik Antonius is one of them, so much so that since 2024 he has been part of the Poker Hall of Fame. However, the legendary player does not compete as frequently in WSOP tournaments. In the series starting next Tuesday (26), he intends to focus on ‘cash-game’ sessions.

Thus, in an interview with “Poker.org” Antonius commented on the reason for his absence from WSOP competitions. “The intense routine of tournaments is simply not for me”, he said, indicating that at least in the ‘Main Event’ he might register. “It’s complicated. Usually, we have good cash games during these weeks. Who knows?”, he added.
However, even away from bracelet-winning tournaments, Antonius still prepares very well for ‘cash-game’ sessions throughout the summer in the United States. “I maintain an exercise routine and adjust my sleep schedule to coincide with the times of my games”, commented the player who usually starts between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
On the other hand, one of the greatest honors of Patrik Antonius’s career occurred precisely during a WSOP and was not related to a prize. Even without ever having won a bracelet, in 2024 he was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. “It meant a lot to me, even though I never aimed for it”, he stated.

The impact of entering the Hall of Fame

However, Antonius told “Poker.org” that his presence among so many notable figures in the mind sport has not changed the star’s lifestyle. “Entering the Poker Hall of Fame hasn’t changed much in my life. I continue living my dream and playing poker on the biggest stages in the world”, replied the Finn.
It is worth highlighting that to enter this select group, some requirements must be met. Being at least 40 years old and respected by the gaming industry is fundamental. “I think I am a good ambassador for poker. Many people have told me they started playing poker because of me. I inspire them”, Antonius commented.
Finally, it is always important to remember that the Finn, even away from tournaments, is one of the greatest winners in history. According to “The Hendon Mob,” he has nearly US$ 32.5 million in live tournament earnings. Patrik Antonius is 31st on the “All Time Money List,” even having focused his career on ‘cash-game’.
