In the last few hours, the poker community witnessed a hand that is being considered by many one of the worst plays in history. In a cash game in the US state of Texas, a player folded quads, even though he had formed the combination on the flop.

Although he had quads as early as the flop, the player identified as “QQQ” didn’t put any more chips in the pot until the river. The last card on the board took away his nuts, opening up chances for a straight flush. When he bet, opponent “Spooky” responded with a raise, and shortly after a 3-bet, “QQQ” was faced with an all-in. For 99% of players in his place, it was a dream scenario, but the player overthought it.
Check out how the action went
The table had blinds of US$ 10/US$ 25. Ryan, in the hijack, was the first to take action by announcing a raise to US$ 150 with A3o. “Spooky” had 66 and, on the button, called, as did Zak, who had 98s in the small blind. “QQQ” was sitting in the straddle and also entered the hand, calling with 44.
The flop brought 644 with two hearts, giving quads to “QQQ” and a full house to “Spooky” right away. Still, none of the four bet, as well as on the turn A, the first heart on the table. The river was the 3 of hearts, and finally, “QQQ” turned aggressive.

He bet US$ 400, and Ryan, who had pairs of A and 4, called. “Spooky”, in turn, raised to US$ 1,300, just before Zak folded. “QQQ” then 3-bet to US$ 2,400, and after Ryan folded, “Spooky” 4-bet all-in for US$ 7,565.
The inexplicable decision
With a stack considerably larger than “Spooky’s” all-in, “QQQ” began a tank with his cards exposed. The broadcast commentators didn’t understand, thinking it was a joke. However, “QQQ” took his cards and discarded them, surrendering the US$ 10,815 pot, equivalent to 432 big blinds.
The clip of the hand generated a flood of responses and interactions on the WPT profile on X. “This guy should never play poker again for the rest of his life,” wrote one user, stunned by the action. “If he had the nuts and beat my quads, fine. But I would make him show,” said another.
