When Phil Hellmuth reaches a WSOP final table, a certain frenzy takes over the tournament room. After all, the legendary player holds the record for the most bracelets in the series and is still chasing the historic 18th jewel. However, the night belonged to Scott Clements, who won the title of Event #9 (US$ 10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better) and pocketed US$ 450,176.

Thus, Clements won the fourth bracelet of his career. The American, born in Washington, overcame the 204 entries in the tournament and faced a final table full of stars. Besides Hellmuth, the decision included names of the caliber of Todd Brunson, son of the legendary Doyle Brunson, and Ryan Bambrick, champion of the previous edition of the event.
However, some of these big names left the competition before the champion was decided. First, Phil Hellmuth finished in seventh place and received US$ 54,214. Next, Ryan Bambrick fell in sixth place, ending the dream of consecutive championships and earning US$ 72,849. Meanwhile, Todd Brunson secured third place, with US$ 203,242, while Dylan Weisman took the silver medal and earned US$ 299,228.
Therefore, the victory had a special meaning for Clements. Exactly 20 years ago, he won his first bracelet precisely in a tournament of this modality, although with a buy-in of US$ 3,000. In addition, throughout his career, he also reached two other final tables of this US$ 10,000 event. In 2009, he finished as runner-up and, six years later, ended his participation in fourth place.

A tireless tournament player

However, a curious fact marked the end of the competition. Right after winning the heads-up against Dylan Weisman, Scott Clements did not waste time celebrating. As registrations for Event #14 (US$ 1,500 Omaha Mixed) were about to close, he rushed to secure a spot in another tournament, already aiming for the fifth bracelet of his career.
Furthermore, it is worth noting that Scott Clements now accumulates US$ 8,721,574 in live tournament earnings. According to The Hendon Mob, this was the player’s biggest payout since 2007, when he won the WPT North American Poker Championship and earned more than US$ 1.5 million.
Finally, Clements’ WSOP record is impressive. Since 2005, he has accumulated 30 final tables and 80 cashes in the series. At the same time, the excellent start to the WSOP by Dylan Weisman also deserves mention. After all, in just one week of competition, he has already reached two final tables, both in Omaha events.
