Stephen Hubbard wins first WSOP bracelet and confirms great phase in his career

Winning a WSOP bracelet is the dream of every poker player. That is why American Stephen Hubbard has reason to celebrate. Considered a specialist in PLO, he won the Event #12 (US$ 1,500 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw) at the WSOP, outlasted a field of 626 entries, and secured the first bracelet of his career along with a prize of US$ 155,819.

Thus, the triumph came just days after another excellent result. Hubbard had finished in fifth place in Event #5 (US$ 5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha), taking home US$ 142,279 in the tournament that ended with the victory of Chinese player Yang Wang. With this result, he totals US$ 1,663,928 in circuit winnings, according to “The Hendon Mob.”

However, the title did not come without difficulties. In the final, Hubbard faced compatriot Gabriel Paul in a very balanced heads-up. The two alternated the lead several times throughout the confrontation, but the champion managed to prevail in the decisive moments. Second place earned US$ 102,957.

Additionally, the podium was completed by fellow American Dylan Smith, who finished third for US$ 69,456. The final table, composed of seven players, was full of representatives from the United States. The only European was Swede Per Hildebrand, eliminated in seventh place for US$ 17,814.

Thus, the American described the victory as a kind of redemption. “I mean, it’s crazy that two such good campaigns happened one after the other. I have some other titles, but this means a lot to me”, Hubbard said in an interview with PokerNews right after the win.

Furthermore, the champion highlighted the impressive streak of results he is currently experiencing. Before this bracelet, he had already won two PokerGO Tour titles in PLO events. When asked about the secret, Hubbard responded humorously. “Accumulation of luck”, joked the player.

Finally, he emphasized his recent consistency in tournaments. “My last four results recorded on Hendon Mob will be first, first, fifth, and first, which is absurd”, he stated in the same interview with “PokerNews.” He also assured that he intends to expand his knowledge in other poker variants.
