In 2015 the poker world was shocked by the success of a young player. At the time 21 years old, Charlie Carrel won the EPT Monte Carlo High Roller and earned an incredible €1.1 million. With this result, he became a regular in the main tournaments around the world, but since 2017, he has not been seen at the WSOP.

Thus, what was once a mystery for lovers of the mind sport became a sad episode. Through a video published on YouTube, Carrel explained why he does not participate in WSOP tournaments. And he had a problem with the United States justice system and ended up being arrested upon landing in Las Vegas.
It is true that the player migrated from tournaments to “cash-game” sessions, but not even the lucrative WSOP cash games can count on Charlie Carrel’s presence. He has been banned from entering the United States since 2017, when he was arrested for drug possession.
However, it is worth remembering that according to “The Hendon Mob”, Carrel has US$ 9.6 million in live earnings. In his last WSOP participation, the British star went far in the traditional Main Event. He finished 88th out of 7,221 entries and earned a prize of US$ 72,514.

How was the arrest?

Between jokes about Donald Trump’s immigration policy in the United States, the poker player told how his arrest happened. According to Carrel, a customs agent searched his bags and found three pink pills in a bottle. The Brit said he was not sure if he had done something illegal, but also did not know if there were more drugs.
Thus, the poker star was taken to a jail in Clark County, Nevada. He ended up behind bars for one night, but was able to understand how the United States prison system works. Even after 8 years since the incident, he still cannot enter the country that hosts the WSOP.
Finally, the player also commented that he was an active drug user. He stated that he consumed narcotics “all the time”, attributing much of his initial success to the use of the substances. To watch Charlie Carrel’s video click here.
