The WSOP 2026 Main Event continues to provide remarkable stories. One of the biggest belongs to Evagoras Evagorou, who is competing in the World Series of Poker for the first time. Furthermore, he became the first representative from Cyprus to reach the final table and has already secured a prize of US$ 1 million.

However, the Cypriot’s mission will not be simple. Evagoras Evagorou will start the final decision in last place in chips, with only 15 big blinds. Still, a victory or even a runner-up finish could place him at the top of the list of biggest poker winners in his country’s history.
Thus, the player celebrated the historic moment in an interview with PokerNews. Very emotional, Evagoras Evagorou highlighted the importance of the achievement. “I dreamed of this moment. This is the first Main Event I’ve played and it’s an incredible feeling. I’m very happy. I can’t describe it in words”, he stated.
In addition, the Cypriot said he started his poker journey after betting on football matches. Over time, he started playing online, organized games among friends, and continued to evolve in the mind sport. Currently, he states that he does not play professionally, but plays quite frequently.

Journey gained momentum in the last days of competition
However, while dreaming of the world title, Evagoras Evagorou also celebrates the biggest prize of his career. Before the Main Event, his best result had been sixth place in the Merit Poker Retro Series Main Event in 2022, when he received US$ 45,490. His only live victory happened in 2014.
Nevertheless, his campaign in the Main Event gained strength on Day 6. After starting with 2,260,000 chips, he ended the day with 7,475,000. Subsequently, he multiplied his stack again and finished Day 7 in fourth place among the 21 remaining players, but struggled on Day 8 to reach the final table.
Finally, Evagoras Evagorou returned to Cyprus before the decision to resolve personal commitments and travel again to the United States with his family. Meanwhile, he continues to dream of becoming the first Cypriot WSOP Main Event champion, an achievement that would go down in the history of world poker.
