The game was at blinds 1,500,000/3,000,000 bb ante 3,000,000 when Han Feng received AA in UTG and made a miniraise. Saaskilahti, on the button, 3-bet 50,000,000, raising the stakes while holding 99. In the big blind, Mueller woke up with JJ and entered a long thoughtful pause.
After a few minutes, the Canadian opted to fold, and right after Feng’s instacall, who had 25,000,000 behind, he saw that the read was correct. In AA vs 99, the flop showed T83 all in diamonds, a suit only Feng had. The J of hearts on the turn, however, gave two open-ended straight draws to Saaskilahti.

While Han Feng hoped to get through unscathed, the cruel river showed the Q of spades, completing Saaskilahti’s straight. With the worst possible scenario in the hand, the American left the competition in fifth place for a prize of US$ 2,250,000.

If this outcome was a nightmare for Feng, the hand was also one of the most crucial for Lauri Saaskilahti. With this pot, the Finn started a positive streak that led him to the heads-up against Lucas Jumalon. The decisive duel will take place this Wednesday (5), revealing the main champion of the year in world poker.
