The entry of Jason Koon into the Poker Hall of Fame did not end the discussions about the voting process. On the contrary, the choice of the American as the sole member of the 2026 class increased the questions. Additionally, this year the organization changed the rules to allow more than one name. The 33 living members could vote for up to 4 nominees, and those who received at least 22 votes would be elected. However, only Jason Koon received enough votes to secure a spot.
Thus, players like Shaun Deeb, Scott Seiver, Justin Bonomo, Isaac Haxton, Mike Matusow, and Isai Scheinberg remained outside the Hall of Fame. Through a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Negreanu revealed that he advocated for a different format during the voting.
In this way, the Canadian wanted a ranked voting system, where everyone should choose three candidates in order of preference. The highest-scoring would win the spots. “The goal of the new system was to reduce the queue somehow, but the system failed”, wrote the owner of eight bracelets.

Scott Seiver also points out flaws in the model
However, Scott Seiver also criticized the voting process. According to the American, the late Doyle Brunson said that many living members of the Hall of Fame no longer follow the current poker scene as closely.
Nevertheless, Seiver proposed a simple solution to help voters. The professional argued that each nominee present a short text explaining their main achievements and the importance of their own career to poker history.
Finally, Seiver believes that voters could better evaluate each candidate before voting. “This would make the process much more human than simply seeing eight names and marking yes or no, without any additional information.”
