Because of this, the achievement of Lucas Jumalon, champion of the WSOP 2026 Main Event at 22 years old, draws so much attention. However, the current bracelet holder ranks only second among the youngest winners in the tournament’s history.

Thus, in 2009, Joe Cada won the WSOP Main Event when he was 21 years, 11 months, and 22 days old. At that edition, the circuit still used the so-called “November Nine”, a model that postponed the final table for about three months after the nine finalists were determined. After defeating Darvin Moon in the heads-up, Cada claimed the title and received US$ 8,546,435.
Additionally, that edition had other curiosities. The legendary Phil Ivey, considered by many one of the best players of all time, reached the final table. However, he finished in 7th place and took home US$ 1,404,014. Among Brazilians, Claudio Baptista had the best performance by finishing in 215th place, with a prize of US$ 36,626.
However, before Joe Cada, another young prodigy had already impressed the poker world. In 2008, Peter Eastgate won the WSOP Main Event at 22 years, 11 months, and 23 days. Later, Lucas Jumalon took second place on this list, having lifted the bracelet at 22 years, 4 months, and 27 days.

However, these young talents are part of the modern era of poker. Before them, the tables mainly gathered older players, with less sociable profiles that still linger in popular imagination. Even so, a young talent emerged, defeated all opponents, and earned the nickname “Poker Brat”.
Thus, in 1989, Phil Hellmuth won his first career bracelet at 24 years, 5 months, and 19 days. The current record holder for titles defeated the legendary Johnny Chan, became the youngest champion of the WSOP Main Event up to that point, and cemented the nickname he carries to this day. Additionally, the title guaranteed a prize of US$ 755,000.
Finally, it is worth noting that these achievements refer only to the WSOP Main Event held in Las Vegas. After all, in other series stages, such as the WSOP Europe, the minimum age to compete is 18 years. Because of this, in 2007, Norwegian Annette Obrestad won the WSOP Europe Main Event one day before turning 19 years old.
