Malaysian Kiat Lee was crowned champion of Event 7 (US$ 40,000 NLH Mystery Bounty) at Triton Jeju this Thursday (10) in South Korea. Throughout the Super High Roller series tournament, the player experienced ups and downs, escaping elimination on the bubble and finishing a comeback campaign in style.

Event 7 at Triton Jeju recorded 133 entries, generating a prize pool of US$ 2,660,000. Kiat Lee took home US$ 619,000 for the title, and the eliminations he made earned him eight bounty tokens. The envelopes will be drawn in a separate ceremony this Friday (11), and with rewards starting at US$ 40,000, it is likely the champion will reach seven figures.
Before the money, Kiat Lee probably did not imagine he would leave with the title. This is because he did not stand out at any point, reaching a critical clash on the bubble. Against Canadian Jamil Wakil, he put everything on the line to double his short stack and avoid being the last eliminated before the ITM.
Lee was ahead at the showdown, and his hand held the advantage. Ironically, he and Wakil faced each other again hours later, in the tournament heads-up, where the Malaysian started with the advantage and gave no chance to the Canadian. For second place, Wakil earned US$ 419,000 plus six bounties.

Along Kiat Lee’s journey, one hand stood out as the turning point. The Malaysian won no less than a quadruple all-in, eliminating three opponents at once, including Phil Ivey. This hand reduced the field from 11 to eight players and formed the FT, in which Lee started with a gigantic 110 big blinds, against 34 of the second place, Alex Anton.
This is Kiat Lee’s fourth Triton event title in his career. After a streak of near misses, he finally won the trident trophy for the first time last year, also in Jeju. Since then, he has added two more victories to his resume, until reaching the fourth in this most recent competition.
