Israeli professional Gal Yifrach returned to the spotlight, but this time away from the poker tables. On July 20, agents from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained the player at Los Angeles airport. So far, authorities have not disclosed the reason for the detention.

Thus, official records indicate that Yifrach remains in custody at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center in Southern California. The case caught the attention of the poker community, mainly because the player is awaiting trial for a federal case initiated several years ago. The site “PokerNews” was the first to report the news.
However, the criminal case is still ongoing. In 2022, the United States Justice Department charged Gal Yifrach with alleged illegal gambling operation and conspiracy to launder money. According to the accusation, he coordinated an illegal slot machine operation between 2018 and 2022.
Thus, authorities state that the professional used different methods for money laundering. Allegedly, he exchanged illegal funds for casino chips, and later deposited checks into his personal account. Additionally, the document mentions investments in real estate with part of the funds.

Gal Yifrach continued competing even during the process
Despite the accusations, Gal Yifrach continued playing poker tournaments in recent years. The main result occurred in 2025, when he won the PokerStars North American Poker Tour (NAPT) Main Event. On that occasion, he overcame a field of 405 entries and received US$ 543,025 for the title.
Additionally, Yifrach has earned more than US$ 2.9 million in live tournament winnings, according to The Hendon Mob database. The Israeli also won a WSOP bracelet in 2018, by winning the US$ 3,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold’em event, a result that earned US$ 461,791.
Finally, the immigration situation creates a new obstacle for the player’s career. Gal Yifrach, an Israeli citizen and resident in the United States for several years, now awaits further developments while remaining in custody of U.S. authorities.
