Among the 21 players who started Day 8 of the WSOP Main Event, one of the most talked-about names was Shaun Deeb. The American won the ninth bracelet of his career in this series but is aiming for an even bigger goal. In addition, he is competing for the Player of the Year (POY) title, an award that recognizes the best player of the season.

However, Shaun Deeb ended his campaign in 15th place. With this result, he earned US$ 410,475. The elimination happened at level 37, with blinds at 500,000/1,000,000, plus the big blind ante. The American found a good opportunity to double up but did not see the necessary cards come.
Thus, it all started when Hossein Ensan opened a raise to 2,000,000 in middle position. Rami Hammond called from the cutoff, and then Shaun Deeb completed from the big blind. The flop came Q♠5♣4♦. Ensan and Deeb checked, while Hammond bet 1,500,000.
Then, Shaun Deeb announced an all-in of 13,600,000. Ensan folded, but Rami Hammond called quickly and showed A♠Q♣. The current POY champion revealed 7♥6♥ and needed a 3 or 8 to complete a straight. However, the turn brought K♦ and the river J♦, ending his participation in the Main Event.

No time for regrets
However, Shaun Deeb repeated the attitude he adopted throughout the series and did not waste time lamenting the elimination. First, he greeted his opponents. Then, he gave interviews and rushed to register for two other tournaments. The American immediately entered Event #95 (US$ 500 Summer Saver) and Event #97 (US$ 25,000 High Roller H.O.R.S.E.).
However, his participation in the Summer Saver was short-lived. Thus, his sole focus became the Mixed Games tournament. With that, the American secured a spot in Day 2 and is currently in 13th place among the 64 qualifiers, keeping alive the hope of earning important points in the race for POY.
Finally, Shaun Deeb currently holds the third position in the Player of the Year standings, with 2,818 points. Ahead of him are Alex Foxen, the leader with 3,283 points, and Naoya Kihara, who has 3,042 points. Additionally, the WSOP will only add the Main Event points after the final table ends in August. The final ranking will be known only in December, during the WSOP Paradise.
