From time to time, social media presents true viral hits. These are the so-called trends, which get everyone on the same wave. In April 2025, for example, the moment was anime-style photos from Studio Ghibli. At that time, even SuperPoker reproduced some poker photos in that format.

However, in this second week of September, the craze is different. Practically all social media are flooded with reproductions of photos in the 80s style. To make one, the process is very easy. Just send an image to the artificial intelligence of your choice and request a faithful reproduction, based on the look of that decade.
Thus, SuperPoker decided to join this trend as well. We chose three epic moments of Brazilian poker to find out what they would look like in the 80s. The first could be none other: the first bracelet of Brazil, won in 2008 by the star Alexandre Gomes. He graces the cover photo of this article.
However, another remarkable moment of Brazilian poker also deserves attention. In 2011, André Akkari, one of the main ambassadors of the deck in Brazil, won a WSOP bracelet. These two achievements happened in Rio, in Las Vegas, but in the 1980s, the main poker series in the world had the Binion’s Horseshoe as its stage.

The legendary Yuri Martins in the 80s
Additionally, any list of historic achievements in Brazilian poker must include the country’s bracelet record holder. Yuri Martins has six jewels, with the six-time championship coming this year. He won the Event #36 (US$ 100,000 High Roller NLH) and thus earned his first No-Limit Hold’em title at the WSOP.
However, unlike the other two victories mentioned earlier, Yuri achieved this feat at another location in Las Vegas. The Brazilian won his sixth bracelet at the Horseshoe & Paris complex, the series’ venue since 2022. Furthermore, the star from Brazil received a prize of US$ 2,841,432 for the victory.
Finally, it is worth remembering that in the 1980s, poker in Brazil practically did not exist. To give an idea, the BSOP, considered the Brazilian Poker Championship, only started in 2006. However, in the 80s, the WSOP already gathered names that made history, such as Doyle Brunson and even Phil Hellmuth, champion of the 1989 Main Event.
